Why You Shouldn't Let AI Tell Your Story

I love AI. I use it every day. It's become one of the most valuable tools in my business.
I also understand how much hand holding it needs.
Even with the hand holding, it's much better than what existed before.
Before AI, if I needed an article for myself or for a client, I had two choices. Sit down and write it myself, or hire someone to write it for me.
Neither solution was ideal. Writing takes time. Hiring a writer costs money and came with an extra level of work.
I'd pay someone to write an article, then I'd either have to go back and forth on rewrites or just accept that I had to fix what they wrote myself.
It's not that the information was wrong or these weren't bad writers. They just couldn't tell the story we were trying to tell the way we wanted to tell it.
That's one of the reasons I love AI. At least I know what its limitations are.
I know it hasn't walked a mile in my shoes. I know it doesn't have the experience to understand my business or my client's business. And because I know that, I know exactly what I need to fix before anything gets published.
AI Knows What Sounds Right. It Doesn't Know What's True.

One of the reasons AI is so impressive is because it has access to an incredible amount of information.
Ask it to write an article about almost any topic. It will usually come back with something that's well written, organized, and professional.
If you ask it to write that same article again, it'll give you another article. That one will be well written, organized, and professional as well.
Chances are neither one will tell the exact story you want your customers to hear.
That's because AI has no frame of reference for your specific business. It hasn't walked a mile in your shoes.
It can't fill in the blanks with experience. All it has to work with are patterns it's seen about your industry, not your business.
There's usually a gap when it comes to what your customers actually need to know.
AI knows what sounds right. It doesn't know what's true.
An article can be accurate and still fail to help your customer.
That's the difference between 100% AI-generated content and AI-augmented content.
Who's Directing Whom?

Here's something to percolate on.
You're inside the Client Connect Article Creation tool. You choose a title and click Create Article.
Inside the tool, two different AI systems work together to create a quality article for you. They'll be working from a set of preloaded instructions about your business.
When they finished they'll download the article to your Google folder. You'll see that it's well written, organized, and factually accurate.
Here's the problem. The AI is creating the article based on what it thinks makes the most sense.
What makes sense to the AI isn't always the story you want to tell your customers. It may emphasize the wrong things, or leave out something that's critical to your clients.
You get to decide what's important, not the AI's.
If you publish the first draft without glancing at it, you've allowed the AI to decide:
what to include
what to leave out
what matters most
what applies to your business
More often than not, you'll end up with a nice article that falls short of what your customers need.
AI should help you tell your story. It should never decide what your story is.
Turning AI-Generated Content into AI-Augmented Content
Every article created inside Client Connect starts as 100% AI-generated content. Your job is to turn it into AI-augmented content before it gets published.
That sounds like a lot of work.
It isn't.
You don't need to rewrite the article. You don't need to become a better writer. You simply need to decide whether the AI made the writing decisions you would have made.
As you review the article, ask yourself a few simple questions.
Did the AI leave out something my customers need to know?
Is the article spending too much time on something that isn't very important?
Did the AI include something that doesn't apply to my business?
Is the article telling the story I want my customers to hear?
If anything is off, note what needs to change and have the AI rewrite the section or the entire article.
Remember, the AI isn't a person. It may sound like one, but it's not.
It won't "feel bad" if you keep telling it to redo something until it sounds right to you. So feel free to be brutal. It can take it.
Tell it exactly what you want changed, have it rewrite the article, and keep it moving.
How Client Connect Gets Smarter
Your corrections do more than prevent your articles from being generic industry content.
We add those corrections to your Client Connect customization. The more it learns your business, the less it has to rely on generic industry patterns.
Each new article starts on a foundation that's closer to the story you want your customers to hear.
The Why Hasn't Changed
AI has changed the way we create content. What it hasn't changed is why we create it.
Your customers and future prospects still have questions. They still have problems they're trying to solve. They're looking for someone who understands what they're going through.
Your content is one of the ways you help them make that decision.
That's why I don't recommend publishing 100% AI-generated content. Not because AI is bad, or because it isn't a great writing tool.
Your customers deserve better than generic pattern matching.
They deserve your perspective. They deserve the things you've learned from years of doing the work.
So let AI do what it does best. Let it organize your thoughts. Let it help you write more clearly. Let it save you time.
Just don't let it tell your story.
That's your job.
